Hello again!!
Well, it’s the summer holidays, which makes me think of theme parks (the inevitable destination when you have lots of kids!!)… which makes me then think of old fashioned fun fairs (this IS going somewhere… bear with me!!). So, old fashioned rides like the tunnel of love!!! Except… this is the Trish interpretation!!!
Not a fairground ride… a mixed media assemblage piece!
The ‘tunnel’ effect comes from the way you look right through the layers of the piece to the focal point in the distance… If we have a sideways look, you’ll see just how dimensional this piece is…
So, what’s it made from? Well, beer mats and dolly pegs! Which will cost you a grand total of £1.68 to buy, so not exactly a huge outlay for the raw ingredients!!!
Step by Step then…
Firstly, cut holes of varying sizes from three beer mats. I haven’t measured or aligned them, so the finished look is more quirky…
Glue dolly pegs onto the beer mats (the three cut ones plus a whole one, so four in total)
Cover everything with text paper for a more interesting background to work on…
Cover with a wash of gesso…
Stamp some flourishes onto tissue paper, then adhere onto the panels using Mod Podge…
I’ve done a little doodling on the panels…
Place the panels on top of each other, then you can position the heart embellishment in the right place. Once you’re happy with the placement, glue the heart down…
Once the heart is in place, glue the four panels together…
Add a little computer generated phrase and its done!
This a good exercise in looking at the things you have, and trying to come up with something original and quirky!!!

Have a play, and see what you can come up with!!!

I love this!! So, so cool!
I love what you’ve done here – fabulous!
Oooo this is very arty and fsb. I love it…. there are so many possible variations on this original theme. thanks loads for the inspiration trish. your imagination is awesome.
Wow! How gorgeous is that in all it’s wonderfully monochromatic simplicity (I’m eating a dictionary for breakfast as I read!!)
I love how we see to make this and I can think of all kinds of people and circumstances this could be adapted for – I LOVE it!
