I have been doing some classes with a fabric designer and artist recently. I have found it informative and inspirational so decided to put a few of the skills into practice and mix them up with my own “altered art” skills to create a vintage style nostalgic fabric collage.
I used calico as the backing and added layers of lace and pieces of the large collage sheets (previously rusted in a tin tray with some vinegar). I also used Versamagic chalk inks to enhance some of the aged feel and to brighten up the verdigris look. (I used gingerbread, aquatic splash, and sea breeze).
I set fire to the edges.. it’s best to do this outside and have a cup of water handy so you can stop it from burning off too much. (I found, putting the fire out with my fingers to be an error lol).
The finished piece is reasonably stiff with the build up of layers, fabric, Gel Medium, Mod Podge and gesso.
The best part is.. NO SEWING REQUIRED lol, but it can be added for aesthetic and original fabric look.
