Another simple paper and glue project thats just right for a valentines day gift or as a gift box for chocolates for someone special. It has a very “Victorian country lady” kind of appeal .
This altered box project actually started with me going to decorate a wooden heart. I got as far as putting on the paper and a bit of gold leaf, then lost my inspirations. But then i was left looking at the paper with a heart shaped hole and had guilt over the wastage. So i got a little card gift box i was given at christmas and painted it pink… I let it dry then tore up the remaining paper in to random sections and covered most of the box with it, allowing gaps to see the pink paint through. I didnt have enough to do the lid… Hmmm that was a problem. I left that aside for the meantime.
Now the box had a really nice aged distressed feel now but it was ever so PINK and NEW looking. I dont like new looking lol. so more aging and distressing was needed. I gave it a dry brush effect using a creamy white paint and put gold wax polish on all the edges. this made the whole thing look softer… almost like a chalk or lime wash. I then applied some gold metal leaf randomly. (and on the lid)
next step was to dab some pink and cream paint (watered down) on to some lace and let it dry. I then glued the lace to the box.
I still had my lid, all plain and paperless. The notion to stick the heart on struck me. It was in the same paper, same colours.. so I tried that and it looked not too shabby (well it looked Shabby chic). I found a spare piece from a broken necklace and stuck it in the middle to finish it all off.
