Hello again!
Blimey, twice in one week…..I think I need to calm down!!
A little extra project from me today, something a bit odd and quirky!
I’ve used the fantastic wooden hearts to create a stand alone scene, standing almost like zany trees against a painty backdrop.
The stand that keeps everything upright is actually part of the the cover I cut off the book I used in Mondays post….. never throw anything away!
The background panel is a beer mat, great size and a perfect surface to paint (or indeed ink) straight on to. I’ve used a base of olive green paint, and added white accents, bermuda blue accents and finally calico red around the edges. Nothing complicated, just apply with your fingers and remember to dry the surface between colours! I’ve printed a few shapes with pen tops and the edges of credit cards…..
The hearts firstly had text paper glued to them. A top tip is NOT to try and cut around them to get rid of the excess paper…sand it! Works wonderfully and a lot less fiddly! Painted with the same colours as the background, then stamped with dots. Now, admission time…I WAS going to use rusty wire for the coiled ‘trunks’ for the heart trees, but I ran out! I’ve used regular copper wire, then antiqued it, but this would look fabulous with the rusty wire!
I wouldn’t normally show the ‘workings’ of a piece, but this is such a feat of glue gun engineering I had to take a sideways shot…..
The thick layers really make the whole thing a very 3D experience!!!
The final touch is an odd phrase from my stash……another top tip, get hold of some really old Mills and Boons, and go through them with your scissors looking for phrases! Keep a sick bucket handy however, those stories are awful!!!
