Chinese Dragon Trinket Box

I used a wood trinket box to create this quick and easy project.  In keeping with the Chinese New Year theme, this small wood trinket box has been transformed into an aged Chinese Dragon Box, ready to store little treasures and keepsakes.

I painted the box with DecoArt red acrylic paint which gives superb coverage and dries quickly. Using my own supply of stamps I stamped on various Chinese scripts and a dragon motif in black on the lid, before applying One Step Crackle finish, also from DecoArt.

The crackles are quite subtle so I’ve highlighted these and the edges of the box by rubbing on some gold gilt wax.  This adds depth and an antique textured finish.

I simply finished off the box with some embellishments from my own stash although you can use metal charms also available in the shop.
